Memory Gateway
Project 1 was an esquisse that focuses on understanding the community and its context. In a group of 3, we were told to design a place-marker. A place-marker can be considered as a local landmark, giving a certain meaning to the place where it sits and describes the identity of the place itself. Often it acts as a focal point as it has a distinct contrast with its context, either by appearance, scale or height.

For our group, we decided to have our place-marker as a "Memory Gateway" to the visitors. The place-marker aims to evoke the memories of Port Dickson that once was a bustling harbour town. Standing at the point where the water meets the land, the design tries to bring back a familiar image of boats docked on the beach. As time pass by, the structure will reveal and hides in the blanket of the sea, creating a different kind of experiences to the users each time they visit.
